Why do we fertilize?

Bluegrass is a wonderful plant! Its natural growth cycle was to be green in the spring with natural moisture, go dormant during the dry summer, and green up again with fall rains.

Since most of us want bluegrass that is green in the spring and stays green until the fall, fertilization is one way to alter the natural pattern of growth of the grass.

Our special formula.

On our bag of fertilizer, there are a series of numbers (20-20-10-2-3) that represent the amount of nitrogen (20%), phosphorus (20%), potassium (10%), iron (2%), and sulfur (3%).

10% Potassium

How often do I fertilize?

As a general rule, it is recommended that you fertilize 3-4 times a year (Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Halloween).

If you choose to fertilize twice, do it in the Fall and in the Spring.

Recommended spreader.

ScienTurfic Sod recommends the cyclone or rotary spreader. It will apply the granules more evenly, which avoids the dark green and yellow stripes that often happens with a drop type spreader.

Make sure to water afterward.

After you fertilize your yard, make sure to sweep your walkways and water thouroughly.

This will ensure that the ScienTurfic Fertilizer will dissolve and reach the grass roots.
